What is Civic Culture dot Net?

Civic Culture dot Net explores, and seeks to help develop, a variety of approaches to local economic and cultural development in our modern world, characterized as it is by globalization and hyper-connectivity.

Two of the practical areas of particular interest at Civic Culture dot Net are, first, how brick-and-mortar place-making harnesses economic development in the cause of bringing people together; and, second, how the development of hyper-local media and self-generating content faciliated by the Internet can enrich local culture and deepen community engagement.

The Latest:

· Keep up to date on new ideas at Civic Culture dot Net via Scott Aikens' blog, Dr. G. Scott's Spot.

· Scott Aikens, who by day works as the Vice President of Leasing at Robert B. Aikens & Associates LLC , is helping to develop a blog called The VOOH!. This blog will over the next two years tell the creation story for Western Michigan's first main-street lifestyle center, the Village of Orchard Hills.

, E-democracy.org, a group co-founded by Aikens in 1994, is now ramping up efforts to build Local Issues Forums in hundreds of local communities across the world. Be sure to read Dr. Aikens' 1997 Ph.D. online to learn more about the academic foundations of the Local Issue Forum.
